IMPACT Make
your Mark has identified a great need for our young mothers who do
not have support systems in place in relation to parenting and
caring for their baby. We have developed a service specific for the
needs of these young mothers in our local community.
This
program is funded by The Local Answers Initiative under the
Commonwealth’s Stronger Families Strategy Program. IMPACT Make your
Mark will be facilitating this program from our site at 106-108
Bargara Road Bundaberg and welcomes young mothers and their
children, as well as referrals from local agencies and community
organisations.
The
Positive Start program is designed to assist
with:
- Developing
personal and practical life skills to nurture positive parenting
techniques.
- One to one
support.
- Link to
support services available and referral to other agencies where
necessary.
- Information sessions,
workshops, guest speakers.
- Referral
to training/employment opportunities.
- Development of individual
action plans.
- Counselling and mentoring
services.
- Individual
and group activities.
- Practical
hands-on approach using interactive facilities eg. cot, change
table, children’s play area.
- Planning
and preparing for the transition into motherhood.
- Referral
and support to attend Pre-natal classes.
- Ongoing
Post-natal support.
- Establishing transport
solutions, child-care options, budgeting advice,
 Centrelink
options.
- Drop-in
centre that offers individual support.
Who can
access this service:
- This free
service is aimed at young mums and/or expectant mothers aged 15-24
years with children under preschool age, who identify the need for
parenting assistance.
- We aim to
provide a safe, comfortable child-friendly environment for mums and
their children.
- This
support service can accommodate family networks, friends and
mentors.

- Children’s
play area.
- Cot and
change table.
- Kitchenette
facilities.
- Internet
and telephone access.
We are
firmly committed to working in partnership with communities in a
flexible way, so that our children, families and communities will
be supported in the ways they need, through our ‘Positive Start’
program.
