What is the Positive Start Parenting Program?

A program designed to assist young mums with:

  • Developing personal and practical life skills to nurture a positive family environment
  • One on one support
  • Creation of individual Action Plans
  • Counseling and mentoring services
  • Links to support services available and referral to other community agencies where necessary
  • Fun activities and making new friends
  • Information sessions, workshops, guest speakers
  • Practical hands-on approach using on-site facilities e.g. cot, change table, children’s play area
  • Referral to training / employment opportunities
  • Exploring transport solutions, child-care options and services on offer at Centrelink
  • Budgeting advice

Assisting young expectant mums by:

  • Helping them plan and prepare for the transition into motherhood
  • Referring and offering support to attend pre-natal classes
  • Offer ongoing Post-natal support

Who can access this service?

This free service is aimed at young mums and/or expectant mothers aged 15-24 years with children under preschool age, who identify the need for parenting assistance.

We aim to provide a safe, comfortable child friendly environment for mums and their children.

This support service can accommodate family networks, friends and mentors.

Entry to the program is voluntary and offers support to those in need of parenting assistance.

Support is also offered in Gin Gin and Childers as required
