Construction White Card

WHY IS THIS TRAINING COMPULSORY?

From 1 July 2009, all persons in the building and construction industry (workers, employers and self-employed persons) are to have completed the CPCCOHS1001A – Work Safely in the Construction Industry training course.

This general induction provides people either working in the construction industry or visiting construction sites with an opportunity to gain some understanding of the legal requirements for safety on construction sites, identifying hazards and managing risks, and general procedures for dealing with emergency situations.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland may issue notices for failing to hold a white card and failing to produce it on a construction site.

WHO HAS TO COMPLETE THE COURSE?

  • Workers
  • Employers
  • Self-employed persons
  • All persons working on or visiting a construction site

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE I ATTEND THE COURSE?

The course is competency based and will involve some form of assessment. When an assessor conducts an assessment, they will work with the student to collect evidence of competent work performance.

The course will be delivered over four hours in a classroom setting which involves face to face teaching. The course is delivered regularly at IMPACT Make Your Mark.

WHAT DO I GET ON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE?

All persons who successfully complete the course will receive a Statement of Attainment and a Construction General Induction Card (White Card). This card must be available and shown to an employer or principal contractor before work commences.

I ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THIS...  DO I HAVE TO DO THIS COURSE?

The assessment process for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) determines whether the learning outcomes for a particular qualification or competency within a qualification match your experience and skills.

RPL gives value to prior learning by formalising it thereby ensuring that the person does not have to study what is already known. Applications for RPL are available on request.
