Transition to Work: Job Help and Assistance for School Leavers and Youth
If you’re aged 15 to 21 years old and would like some extra support on your journey to employment, IMPACT can help you find an apprenticeship, work experience, work placements, traineeships and job opportunities in Bundaberg. By partnering with Transition to Work, we’ve made it easy to find jobs and appropriate training for school leavers.
What is Transition to Work?
Transition to Work is an initiative by the Australian Government is designed to help and support young people who are early school leavers and those who have had difficulty entering employment after school. Transition to Work also aims to give young people pre-employment support so that they feel confident before they enter the workforce. Support includes apprenticeships, work experience placements and traineeships.
How does IMPACT and Transition to Work work together?
IMPACT is a Transition to Work provider in Bundaberg. We assist school leavers and young people to understand what is expected in the workplace and develop the skills, attitudes and behaviours expected by employers. Our partnership with Transition to Work can provide young people with access to our strong network of employers. We also support you with:
- Finding appropriate apprenticeship and trainships
- Developing practical skills to get a job
- Connecting with education or training
- Finding and participating in work experience placement opportunities
- Identifying employment opportunities in the local area
- Connecting with relevant local community services
Am I eligible for Transition to Work?
In order to qualify for Transition to Work, you must:
- Be aged 15-21, and
- Be an Australian citizen, or
- the holder of a permanent visa, or
- New Zealand Special Category Visa, or
- Nominated Visa (including Temporary Protection Visa or Safe Haven Visa).
- Have not been awarded a Year 12 certificate or Certificate III
- Currently not working more than 8 hours per week
- Be currently participating in another employment service including jobactive.

Does Transition to Work help Employers?
Absolutely. Employers who hire someone under the Transition to Work program will receive a quality employment service that ensures young people meet their needs for their specific business type. This applies to apprenticeships, work placements and traineeships.
Furthermore, employers may be able to access a youth wage subsidy (for eligible young people) of up to $10,000 over 6 months to help take on new starters, such as hiring or training costs.
IMPACT also offers post placement support which includes regular contact to ensure the young person is settling in and that your expectations are being met.
