Julia Cole was facing a career change with a little trepidation, but after signing up at IMPACT Community Services, all her fears were laid to rest.
“After a redundancy I had to really think about what I wanted to do,” Julia said, “and I thought I'd like to get into aged care or disability.
“I saw that IMPACT was running an Individual Support in Ageing course and I signed up.”

Julia felt that she just wanted to give back a little and found the course really great.
“My lecturer Sandy has been amazing,” she said. “She has that ability to get things to stick in your head, so when I did go on placement I really thought about them. I found all the information she shared with us really valuable, and if we had any dramas she was always available.
"At first I was a little bit hesitant – 'Can I do it?' – but after my three weeks experience in a placement it's been really great,” Julia said, “and now I can see myself in this sort of career for a long time.”

Julia's new career change has been a challenge, but IMPACT has made the transition into her new field in individual aged care much easier.
“I definitely give IMPACT a 10 out of 10,” she said.
And the good news is that Julia has been for a number of interviews and has now gained employment in her new chosen field.
A recent story has revealed that nursing and aged care support are jobs in high demand. The hiring demand for roles in aged care and disability support rose five positions to third place. (News.com.au: https://bit.ly/31BQcU5)
