FAQs: Hospitality

Your questions answered about IMPACT's hospitality training course.

Expand

What materials do we need to bring ourselves?

Just a pleasant smile! We provide packs, which include pens and all materials needed for your training to begin.

You will be required to obtain a black or white top, closed-in comfortable shoes (for practical work) and long black pants or skirt suitable for working in the hospitality industry.

Please ask prior to enrolment whether you are eligible for funding assistance in this regard.

What will we achieve?

You will get plenty of hands-on experience in the hospitality industry, and on completion of the training you will get your full Certificate III in Hospitality.

When do we start practical experience?

Once the basics are covered, which include hygiene and safety, we start the practical.

This approach is very similar to industry work where you would undertake an induction before commencing work duties.

FAQs: Home & Community

Thinking of studying Home & Community? Here are the answers to your questions.

Expand

Will I get a job when I finish the course?

IMPACT's experienced staff have strong community links which means we have access to a large number of potential employers, many of whom have employed students from our courses.

Our experienced and skilled staff will help you develop your skills and maximise your chances of finding employment.

Will I retain the information?

It may seem like you have a lot to learn and remember.

However, it all falls into place when you go out on a placement and start using your new skills.

Feedback from students on placements backs this up time and time again.

Will I be able to study as I haven't studied in years?

Absolutely! IMPACT has helped hundreds of people realise their dreams through acquiring a qualification.

Our staff are specialists in their own fields and have many strategies, tips and tricks to help you even if it has been a long time since you learned something new.

What if I am not a good speller?

You can use computers to type up all assignments, and we have one day a week where we can use a computer room.

Together we can come up with something that works well for you.

How much homework do I need to do?

If you do not complete work within the class times, it is best to try and answer a couple of questions each night.

This helps to keep information fresh in your mind, and it sometimes helps if you do a little bit often.

It is also a good idea to get your own little study space, so when you sit down you know it is time to work.

And don't forget to ask lots of questions.

FAQs: Disability training

The community services sector is a job growth area. Check out the answers to your questions about disability training at IMPACT.

Expand

What are the chances of gaining employment after the course?

Community services is a job growth area and with the National Disability Insurance Scheme implemented in the Bundaberg district, it is likely that organisations will be seeking suitably qualified staff for disability support worker roles.

Are vocational placement hours the same as training group hours?

Vocational placement is usually undertaken five days a week towards the end of the course, but shift times can vary.

We will talk about any specific available shift hours and requirements during the course, so that we can arrange the most suitable placement for you.

If I get a job during the course, can I still finish the course part-time?

We are flexible where possible under those circumstances, but we would require you to take responsibility for the work that you miss.

Our trainers will assist where they can.

Do we need computer skills to do this course?

You do not require computer skills to commence the course.

However, we will spend one day a week in the computer room where you will be required to complete some internet research and some assignment work on the computer.

This is necessary as a support worker as you may be expected to complete reports and timesheets online.

You should not be worried about this competency, as we will assist you to gain the required skills. That is what we are here for.

Will there be much take-home work to do?

We understand that you are adult learners with families and commitments.

It is always our aim that work is completed in the classroom.

There may be some occasions where you will need to complete some work at home.

However, if you come to class each day, this will be minimal, maybe unnecessary.

For people who are unable to attend class each day, you will be required to complete some work outside of class hours.

This will be discussed prior to course commencement.  We will assist where we can.
